1.1 Location

The Asian Barometer Survey Wave IV covered the area of Hong Kong, including the island, Kowloon and New Territories. 

1.2 Population

Hong Kong's population was approximately 7.24 million in 2014. The population density was 6,650 people per square kilometer.

1.3 Government

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. The region is governed by Chief Executive, currently Leung Chun-ying, who is elected by the Election Committee and appointed by the Central People’s Government. The Legislative Council has 70 members for the fifth term, with 35 Members returned by geographical constituencies through direct elections, and 35 Members by functional constituencies.

The 35 geographical seats of the Legislative Council are elected through proportional representation. Five of the 35 functional constituencies are elected by the list system of proportional representation, 26 by the first past the post voting system, and 4 by the preferential elimination system of voting.

Five of the 35 functional constituencies are elected by proportional representation and the other members by the first-past-the-post system. The latest legislative election was held in September 2012 in which the pro-Beijing camp won 43 seats while the pan-democrats had 27 seats.
