The Asian Barometer 2016 Survey covered the entire territory of Indonesia. Sample was taken proportionately based on population in each province, rural and urban areas, and gender.
The population of the Indonesia in 2010 was 237.641.326. Fifty percent of the population is urban and the most populous Muslim-majority country. The world's most populous island of Java contains more than half of the country's population.
Indonesia is a republic with a presidential system, with the president as the head of the state and the government.
The 2004 presidential election was the first in which the people directly elected the president and vice-president. The president may serve a maximum of two consecutive five-year terms.
The first direct presidential election in 2004, which was won by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who went on to win a second term in 2009. In the 2014 presidential election, Joko Widodo was elected as President.
